Strip Hatch cover

Sat, 11/18/2017 - 04:09
Many moons ago I saw an article somewhere on hatch construction that I can no longer find - anywhere. I have searched this site and the internet and all you-tubes I can find to no avail. I will tell you what "I think" I remember and maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Used clear ...

Other Removing Factory Seat

Wed, 11/15/2017 - 13:15
Do seats generally provide any sort of structural component to a boat? I hate the composite seat that came with my boat and was planning to remove it and replace it with a handmade foam seat but the sides of the kayak are "pinched" in to attach/reach to the seat. I wasn't sure if this was for ...

Shop Dynel Tape?

Fri, 11/10/2017 - 14:27
I've fallen in love with Dynel and only need a couple long 2" strips. Does anyone know somewhere that sells Dynel tape? I've done lots of google searching and would have to order 55"x7yrds and cut strips. If not, does it come available from time-to-time or should I just use the ...

Epoxy: laying cloth over 'tacky' epoxy?

Mon, 10/30/2017 - 12:24
I think I remember reading here that someone let the epoxy coat get tacky before laying a cloth on a paddle to help it to conform around the edge of the paddle. I think I also remember reading somewhere that a second coat of epoxy had to wait until the first was no longer tacky or problems would ...

Material 5/4 Rough Western Red Cedar -- best approach?

Fri, 10/27/2017 - 05:54
Turns out my local yard does have Western Red Cedar. It is 5/4 x 6 rough at 16+ feet long. So, am I better off planing to 3/4 and cutting 3/16" strips, or ripping to 3/4 strips, rotating, and cutting 3/16" strips from there?

Strip Quick Repair?

Sun, 10/22/2017 - 13:39
I finally hit a rock. Not my finest moment, but I guess it happens. I was planning to go camping with a group this weekend, and I'd like to try and do at least a decent repair that will be ready to paddle by Friday. Can I just "fill" the dent with epoxy to get it closer to level? The dent is ...

Strip I cut one tiny form and gave up... *PIC*

Thu, 10/19/2017 - 14:37
The MDF dust from jigsawing the rough shape, bandsawing close, and sanding to the line was more than I was willing to deal with, and I was already in fear of an oops. So... Yeah, not the fastest way. I've spent two days creating cut files. But with an effective dust collector on the CNC, ...

Skin-on-Frame PL Premium on Polyester Tested

Mon, 10/16/2017 - 17:54
This happened a few weeks ago... I'm only now getting around to posting about it. Neighbor of mine went out kayaking with me. She took the wife's 13' Yost Sea Bee, while I took the 17' Yost Sea Rider. It was a nice paddle, but her competitive streak came out and she wanted to race. ...

Hi guys, girls! New to this forum, so a quick intro I plan on building a Guillemot over the winter here in Italy to play around on the lakes with.
